About the Festival

Rhys Meirion

Artistic Director and Committee Chairman
Having being a professional tenor for over 10 years experiencing worldwide cultures, I felt the need for a large scale cultural festival in North East Wales. I am fortunate to have three healthy children and can only imagine what parents with terminally ill children have to bear. Hope House Hospices are invaluable to so many families and it angers me that they have to raise over £4 million a year to continue giving their care. I have a vision that Gwyl Gobaith will grow from strength to strength over the coming years.

In 2001 we organised a small concert in Mold and subsequently went on to organise another 6. The success of the concerts led us to join forces with Rhys Meirion and stage the inaugural Gwyl Gobaith with the invaluable help of the Committee. We now look forward to building a bigger and better festival that will be established within Flintshire, and continue to raise funds for Hope House Hospices.

Gareth Ellis

Having a love of music and 29 years experience of working with children, I have decided to combine both and contribute my enthusiasm and passion to a really worthwhile cause. What could be better than to raise money for such a worthy charity whilst enjoying fabulous music.

Huw Howatson

I decided to become involved in Gŵyl Gobaith as it was such a great cause. As a succesful local businessman I felt that I had many contacts in the industry that could in some way help the festival. I am confident that the event will continue to grow and develop.

Richard Jones

Chief Steward
Lives in Mold with his wife Ann and has two grown up children. I served in the Police for 31 years retiring as an Inspector in Mold and during my service I was involved in the policing and in some instances the organising of policing for many major events. Following my retirement I had a consultancy with a security company and was responsinle for security at the Royal welsh Show, the National Eisteddfod and the Urdd Eisteddfod.

Gail Homersley

I am the new girl on the block and looking forward to getting involved in any way I can – I describe myself as a “Girl Friday”. I have worked with children in the past as a Cub Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Church Youth Group etc and also enjoy music of all kinds. I am hoping I will be able to help in all sorts of ways and raise funds for a worthwhile cause.

Anne-Marie Hindle

Being a mother of two and running a Bridal business in Graianrhyd near Mold I was touched after visiting the children’s hospice in Conwy ‘Ty Gobaith’, I was determined to raise much needed funds and have in the past held several events to do so.

Having a passion for both music and Ty Gobaith when the opportunity arose in being part of Gwyl Gobaith, I was thrilled. Holding such a wonderful event in Flintshire gives the whole community a chance to experience a fantastic musical festival and raise money for a local charity too.
